Riders to Pay A Dollar More

Taxi drivers in Chicago accepted a deal to add an additional dollar to everyones fare in order to balance gas prices. They feel this is unfair. I mean, come on. The average ride cannot last more thanĀ 10 mins. 5-8 rides an hour, so thats 8 dollars an additional. I am sure they only go through one gallon of gas an hour. Maybe two. So why is this a bad deal?
Cabbies? Any comments?
